Source Material - Augusta at the Dominican

The Dominican hotel is hosting Source Material, an exhibition curated by Augusta gallery, which specialises in sustainable design.

Innovative pieces by designers Roxane Lahidji, Atelier La Gadoue, Louise Richard, Mathilde Wittock, Didier Henry and Ariane van Dievoet guide visitors through the hotel's lobby, restaurant and patio.

It's a journey that celebrates Belgian design and the sustainable transformation of materials.

Ariane van Dievoet presents her Dominican bench, a piece made from reclaimed wood and carefully selected pieces of discarded green marble. This is Ariane van Dievoet’s speciality: combining traditional assembly methods with digital technologies to upgrade materials by taking into account the properties of the offcuts she collects.

Ironworker Didier Henry and designer Ariane van Dievoet present a series of sculptures made from leftovers of brass and bluestone. The moon-like sculptures are the result of their collaboration and experimentation with the forge. The large piece exhibited in the bar of The Dominican hotel displays the fire patina, a testimony to the role of the fire in their creative process.

CURATED - Mix Hotel

Designer and sculptor Ariane van Dievoet creates pieces from off-cuts of materials to highlight their texture and form.Specialising in the reuse of materials, she combines traditional and digital techniques to fashion objects from scraps of wood, bluestone, marble, mirror fragments and more.

A degree in interior design from the Chelsea College of Art (UK) and her master’s degree in Adaptive reuse in architecture from the Rhode Island School of Design (USA) laid the foundations for Ariane’s research. She  began her career in Brooklyn, where she worked for five years and founded her studio, AVANDI. She then returned to Brussels in 2018, focusing her work on materials reuse.

Ariane passes on her expertise to students at CAD, where she teaches courses in object design and sustainable design and technology. In 2023, she co-founded Augusta, a gallery specializing in sustainable design, based in Sablon.

The first edition of the Curated, Collectible Design Exhibition will be hosted at Mix Brussels and curated by Lionel Jadot. Featuring the work of 44 talented designers, this unique event transforms the historic former Royale Belge building into a vibrant hub of creativity. Designers, artists, collectors, and architects will come together to showcase and share their exceptional creations during a residency weekend filled with food, music, and DJ sets. This three-day event is open and accessible to everyone.

FUSIONS by Ariane van Dievoet & Didier Henry

Ariane van Dievoet and Didier Henry will be presenting their sculptures in a new exhibition called Fusions. The designer and the blacksmith have imagined and created works in brass with a lunar appearance, presented on stone, wood and brass bases. Their joint work is rooted in experimentations and the reuse of materials.

Exhibition : November 18 - December 17 // Thursday-Saturday, 12-5pm

Opening night : Thursday November 17, 5pm - 9pm (upon reservation)

Late openings : November 24, 25 & 26

Ariane van Dievoet is the designer behind AVANDI Studio. She divides her time between her work as a designer, teacher at the CAD and fabmanager in charge of training at Micro Factory. She combines traditional and digital techniques to create objects from reclaimed materials. The reuse of building elements has also guided her renovation of 5 Rue Coppens, where the Fusion pieces will be exhibited.

Didier Henry is developing two main areas of production: the restoration of old ironwork and artistic creation and fabrication at the forge. Trained alongside an old country blacksmith and in the forge of the Academie voor Beeldende Kunsten in Anderlecht, he set up his own metalwork business in 2015. In his workshop in the middle of the Condruzian countryside, he works with steel, brass, stainless steel and aluminium to create custom-made works.
